Whether you are an aspiring Virtual Assistant or already one, it is important to think about the location of your workspace. It is a major factor that helps to boost productivity when working from home.

Where is Your Workspace Located?

Try to find a space in your home that is comfortable and free of distractions. While you might think you can work from anywhere with your laptop, a dedicated office space helps you psychologically. And you tend to take working from home more seriously.

With this in mind, test different spots in your home. Take your laptop and try working in various rooms. Remember, you want a space where you feel most comfortable working.

Want to know a secret? I started my business on my bed 🛏️

Yes, I know it’s not the ideal spot. But as a new Virtual Assistant, I wanted to start making money without spending too much in the beginning. You have to start somewhere right?

As time went by and my workload increased, I moved to the dining table 🍽️

Sounds hilarious? Well, the truth is this is a reality for many startups.

Think about this:

Google, Amazon, HP and Walt Disney World all started in small spaces, in a garage.

So don’t worry about the size of your workspace. Think about the big dreams you have for your business.

Is Your Workspace Right for You?

As a remote worker or virtual service provider, you tend to spend many hours on the computer. So it is important to have a suitable desk and chair.

Your Chair

If you can afford it, go for an ergonomic chair. It will go a long way to prevent back and neck pain. An alternative is a posture cushion.

The posture seat helps to position your back correctly so you could feel comfortable when sitting for extended periods. If you have any existing injuries or back problems, you should make it a priority to invest in proper seating.

Your Desk/Writing Table

When it comes to your desk, a computer desk, writing table, or folding table will do. Some questions to ask yourself when choosing your desk are:

  • What size desk will work well in my space?
  • Is it the right height for me?
  • Do I need built-in storage?
  • Does it have to accommodate computer accessories?

You could also consider getting a standing desk or a standing desk converter.

With so many options available, you could decide what works for your budget and your needs. Remember, you are creating a space that is comfortable for you. So get the items you need and feel free to be creative. And don’t forget to add your creative touch 😉
